A recognized leader in STEM education, the Center for Research, Engineering, Science, and Technology, or C.R.E.S.T., is a four-year Honors STEM program offered at Paradise Valley High School designed to prepare students for future academic and career pursuits in STEM fields, making them competitive candidates for college and job opportunities
The Engineering program prepares students to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers engaged in a wide variety of projects. Includes instruction in various engineering support functions for research, production, and operations, and applications to specific engineering specialties.
GPA - 3.71
HONORS INTRO TO ENGINEERING DESIGN
Introduces the engineering design process through problem scoping, brainstorming, and iterative prototyping. Covers sketching, dimensioning, reverse engineering, and parametric solid modeling as tools for communicating design intent via SOLIDWORKS.
HONORS ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABILITY
Examines energy, resource, and systems-level tradeoffs in engineered solutions. Covers renewable energy conversion, life-cycle analysis, and the environmental and economic constraints that shape sustainable design decisions.
HONORS INTRO TO ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND CIRCUITRY
Surveys core engineering disciplines through applied problem-solving in mechanisms, statics, materials, and control systems via NI MULTISIM. Emphasizes teamwork, technical documentation, and hands-on validation of design concepts.
HONORS CIVIL ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE
Covers the design and analysis of residential and commercial structures, including site planning, structural loading, and building systems. Introduces architectural drafting and modeling conventions via REVIT.
ECE ENGINEERING 102 - UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA DUAL ENROLLMENT
University-level introduction to the engineering design cycle, completed for college credit. Culminated in the Solar Oven Project: designing, prototyping, and testing a solar cooker under material constraints, then calculating a performance index defined as the ratio of temperature increase to the delivered cost of the oven. Emphasized modeling, iterative prototyping, and technical reporting alongside teamwork and quantitative analysis.
Class: HONORS INTRO TO ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND CIRCUITRY
Description: Assembly and soldering of hardware components onto a PCB to create a dice-style dislay that outputs a random integer to the LEDs.
Skills: Soldering, Computer Hardware
Class: ECE ENGINEERING 102 - UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA DUAL ENROLLMENT
Description: Design and assembly of a solar oven based upon a proprietary MICROSOFT EXCEL thermal calculator. The calculator reciveds angle of incident solar rays, ambient temperature as inputs, and outputs recomended design charcateristsics such as angle of reflectors, reflector area, heating chamber volume, and neccesary heating chamber insulation.
Skills: Thermodynamics, Microsoft Excel
Class: ECE ENGINEERING 102 - UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA DUAL ENROLLMENT
Description: Tree mounted waste bin that collapses like a camping chair. Aimed at gap in camping market for a space-conscious, waterproof, bug-resistant, waste solution. Designed in FUSION 360 and verified through rigorous testing.
Skills: Computer-Aided Design, Consumer Conscious Design
Class: HONORS INTRO TO ARCHITECTURE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING
Description: Full scale residential Habitat for Humanity home proposal. Electrical, plumbing, site, foundation, section & detail, and rendering views are included. Building is compliant with 2012 International Residential Code and strives to meet LEED, ENERGY STAR, and renewable standards, including water use minimization calculations.
Skills: Computer-Aided Design (Revit), Consumer Conscious Design, Code Compliance
